The Joint Forces Command of the Saudi-led coalition to restore legitimacy in Yemen, through its official spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Malki, issued a stern warning regarding the Houthi movement's exploitation of traditional maritime vessels to conduct military smuggling operations by sea.

In an official statement, the Coalition Command detailed that the group has been utilizing traditional wooden boats and vessels -locally known as Za'ima, Houri, Jalba, and Sanbuq- to transport smuggled weapons, missiles, and military hardware.

The Coalition stated that these activities pose a grave, direct threat to the security of Yemen, as well as to broader regional and international maritime security.

The statement highlighted that these illicit smuggling activities endanger the lives and safety of civilians operating in territorial waters and strategic shipping lanes.

Refuse cooperation

As part of its maritime safety and security directives, the Joint Forces Command appealed directly to all owners of maritime craft and local fishermen, emphasizing the vital necessity of refusing any involvement or cooperation with the Houthis.

The Coalition urged vessel owners to avoid facilitating smuggling operations targeting Yemeni shores, stressing that compliance is essential to safeguard their own lives, livelihoods, and property from the dangers associated with military exploitation.
