UK rapper Russ Millions has cancelled his scheduled performance at the Boomerang Music Festival in Tel Aviv, ‘Israel’, after facing intense online backlash.
The London drill artist, known for hits including “Gun Lean” and the number-one collaboration “Body” with Tion Wayne, had been advertised to appear at the event on 22 October.
The booking quickly drew criticism from fans and social media users who questioned why a British artist would perform in ‘Israel’ amid the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Russ Millions addressed the controversy during an Instagram Live session. “If I was aware of any form of people killing, children or women I wouldn’t even have accepted any show,” he said.
“I just wanna let you know I will not be attending Tel Aviv.”
Shortly afterwards the rapper posted a brief statement on social media: “I won't be performing in tel aviv anymore. thank you.”
Russ Millions, whose real name is Shylo Batchelor Ashby Milwood, rose to prominence in the UK drill scene with energetic tracks and catchy hooks that helped take the sound mainstream.
