  • A residential building in the al-Yarmouk area of western Gaza City was bombed on Thursday. It was the second time the building had been hit.
  • Faiz Qreqa captured the strike on camera.
  • UNOSAT satellite analysis found that about 82% of all structures in Gaza, roughly 201,290 buildings, were damaged as of June 2026.

A residential building in the al-Yarmouk area of western Gaza City was bombed by ‘Israeli’ warplanes on Thursday, the second time it has been struck, according to footage filmed by Faiz Qreqa.

The video shows the moment of impact and the aftermath: a cloud of smoke and debris rising from the multi-story building, which was already damaged in an earlier attack. Casualty figures were not available at the time of writing.

Repeat strikes on already damaged buildings are a growing concern in Gaza, where many families continue to shelter in partly destroyed structures because they have nowhere else to go.

Ceasefire violations

The US-brokered ceasefire took effect on Oct. 10, 2025. Since then, Gaza’s Health Ministry has recorded nearly 1,500 deaths, and the total toll since October 2023 stands at 74,382. Islamic Relief says a Palestinian in Gaza has been killed or wounded on average every 90 minutes since the ceasefire took effect.

‘Israeli’ forces have also moved the so-called Yellow Line, which marks the area under ‘Israeli’ control, deeper into Gaza City. Al Jazeera reports that ‘Israeli’ forces have continued pushing the Yellow Line further into residential Gaza City neighborhoods, triggering fresh displacement. Earlier this week, a strike on a residential building in the Rimal neighborhood killed a 33-year-old woman and wounded two others.

Scale of destruction

According to UNOSAT, as of June 16, 2026, approximately 201,290 buildings, or 82% of all structures, had been damaged in the Gaza Strip, including 134,422 destroyed buildings. About two-thirds of the damaged buildings have been destroyed outright. The UN estimates that about 328,627 housing units have been damaged.

Destruction has continued during the ceasefire. UNOSAT found that the number of destroyed structures has increased by nine percent since the ceasefire was declared. Gaza governorate, which includes al-Yarmouk, is among the worst affected, with 51,530 damaged structures, 41,663 of them in Gaza City alone, in UNOSAT’s October 2025 assessment.
