  • Japan has raised its travel advisory for several regions of Saudi Arabia to Level 2, advising against non-essential travel amid increased Houthi missile and drone attacks.
  • Areas near the Yemeni border remain under a Level 3 warning, while Japanese officials have urged travelers to avoid Saudi airports unless necessary.

Japan has advised its citizens against non-essential travel to Saudi Arabia following an increase in Houthi missile and drone attacks, including reported strikes targeting Riyadh.

In an update issued Wednesday, Japan’s Foreign Ministry raised its travel advisory for several northern and western regions from Level 1 to Level 2 on its four-tier scale, extending the warning across the kingdom.

The ministry cited an increase in Houthi attacks since October 5, including strikes on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh that reportedly killed 13 people and injured more than 300 others.

The ministry urged Japanese nationals to avoid Saudi airports unless absolutely necessary, warning that further attacks could disrupt air travel as fighting in Yemen continues.

Japanese citizens planning to visit the kingdom were also advised to consider postponing their trips.

Areas near the border with Yemen remain under a Level 3 advisory, which urges Japanese nationals to avoid all travel to those locations.

The expanded warning reflects growing security concerns over the potential impact of the escalating conflict on civilian travel and critical infrastructure across Saudi Arabia.
