  • NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani strongly criticized federal authorities after an ICE agent shot a resident in his car while a 5-year-old child was inside.
  • Mamdani contacted Trump to demand an immediate end to all NYC ICE enforcement actions and reiterated calls to abolish the agency.
  • Reaffirming immigrant support, the mayor urged residents to utilize the city's free legal hotline regardless of immigration status.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani issued a sharp condemnation of federal immigration enforcement following an afternoon shooting in the Marble Hill neighborhood, where an ICE agent opened fire on a vehicle containing a New Yorker and a 5-year-old child.

According to initial reports, federal agents surrounded the individual's car in the residential area before discharging multiple rounds.

While the 5-year-old child was physically unharmed, the driver sustained injuries and remains hospitalized as authorities pray for his recovery.

Expressing outrage over the incident, Mayor Mamdani characterized the situation as unconscionable and stated that federal enforcement actions directly compromise public safety.

"ICE makes this city less safe. We want them out. Now," Mamdani said, adding that he reached out to US President Donald Trump to demand a complete halt to all ICE operations within New York City.

NYC offers legal assistance

In response to heightened fears among immigrant communities, Mayor Mamdani reaffirmed the city's commitment to protecting all residents, emphasizing that immigrant New Yorkers belong in the city while federal immigration enforcement agents do not.

The mayor urged anyone in need of assistance to access the city's free, confidential Immigration Legal Support Hotline at 1-800-354-0365 or by dialing 311 and requesting "Immigration Legal," noting that services are available in multiple native languages regardless of legal status.

"Abolish ICE"

Escalating his stance against federal sweeps in local communities, hospitals, streets, and around children, Mamdani closed his statement with a direct call to dismantle the agency entirely: "Abolish ICE."
