US President Donald Trump has appointed Katie Zacharia, a senior communications adviser to his media company, as White House press secretary, replacing Karoline Leavitt.

Trump announced the appointment in a post on Truth Social on Friday, praising Zacharia as a “loyal and brilliant supporter” and expressing confidence she would work well with the media, the American public and his administration.

Zacharia currently serves as senior communications adviser to Trump Media & Technology Group, which operates the social media platform Truth Social. She previously worked as a spokesperson and deputy assistant secretary for public affairs at the Department of Homeland Security.

An attorney and graduate of Pepperdine University and its Caruso School of Law, Zacharia has also appeared as a commentator on Fox News and Newsmax. She previously worked on Trump's election campaigns, including in key swing states.

Trump praised Leavitt for her tenure as press secretary, describing her as “fabulous” and saying she had done a “fantastic job” in the role.
