‘Israel's’ foreign minister Gideon Saar announced on Thursday that Colombia would join a small list of countries to open an embassy in Jerusalem next week, while most other embassies in ‘Israel’ remain in Tel Aviv.

"Next Wednesday, we are going to inaugurate... the Colombian embassy," Saar said at a conference, adding that the Latin American country would be the tenth to open an embassy in Jerusalem.

Nearly all countries with diplomatic ties to ‘Israel’ have their embassies in Tel Aviv, because Jerusalem is not recognised by the international community as ‘Israel's’ capital.

Only the United States, Guatemala, Honduras, Kosovo, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Fiji, Nauru and Somaliland, whose independence only ‘Israel’ recognises, have embassies in Jerusalem.

"I can tell you time ahead that we already agreed about the 11th embassy with DRC, and that will be very soon," Saar added.

Jerusalem's status is one of the most intractable issues of the ‘Israeli’-Palestinian conflict.

‘Israel’ annexed east Jerusalem after occupying the West Bank in 1967, but the UN does not recognise the annexation.
