  • The resolution defines Zionism as an "ethnonationalist political project."
  • It reasserts commitment to Palestinian right of return, endorses the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
  • 'Israel' criticized the decision, stating the Green Party had "ceased to act as a political party."

Members of the UK’s Green Party voted to formally establish “anti-Zionism” as official party policy during its 2026 annual conference, approving the motion by a margin of 1,022 to 813.

The newly passed resolution defines Zionism as an "ethnonationalist political project" and states that “anti-Zionism” should not be equated with “antisemitism.”

It also equates Zionism with Racism.

In addition, the policy advocates for a “single democratic state across historic Palestine,” the right of return for Palestinian refugees, support for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, and a full arms embargo against ‘Israel.’

Following the vote, a Green Party spokesperson stated the internal debate while emphasizing the party's platform principles. "This has been a serious and deeply felt debate within our membership," the spokesperson said.

"The Green Party is an anti-racist party and has consistently opposed the illegal occupation of both Palestinian and Syrian land, called for an end to arms sales to the Israeli government and spoken out fearlessly about the devastating situation in Gaza and the West Bank,” the spokesperson added.

The spokesperson added that commitment to equality, justice, human rights, and opposition to all forms of racism remains central to the party's approach going forward.

The vote drew condemnation from the 'Israeli' Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which claimed the resolution goes beyond the “boundaries of legitimate political debate.”

The ministry stated that the Green Party had "ceased to act as a political party and became a body that gives legitimacy to terrorism," alleging that the adopted platform supports rhetoric aimed at the elimination of ‘Israel’.
