A roadside billboard of the Indian Flydubai pilot Captain Smit Machchhar was displayed in Ashdod, southern 'Israel', with a message written in Hebrew and Hindi that read "Thank you, hero."

The billboard was set up following an in-flight emergency on Flydubai Flight FZ1073 during its journey from Dubai to Tel Aviv.

Machchhar was injured when his co-pilot allegedly initiated a sudden attack inside the cockpit using an “emergency axe” in a claimed attempt to crash the aircraft.

Machchhar claimed that he managed to unlock the cockpit door. This enabled off-duty crew members and passengers to enter, overpower the assailant, and assist reserve pilots in taking control of the aircraft, which later made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.

Following the incident, Machchhar spoke via phone with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and ‘Israeli’ Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called him a "true hero of the people of India and Israel".

Netanyahu also invited Machchhar and Prime Minister Modi to “light celebratory flame” during “Israel's national celebrations.”
