- The gathering comes as Gaza’s football community has lost players and other sports figures during the war
Footage captured by Ibrahim Mohareb shows hundreds of Palestinians gathering to watch a live football match in a refugee camp in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.
The makeshift pitch where the match was held is encircled by tents housing displaced Gazans following the ‘Israeli’ assault on Gaza.
The gathering comes amid the wider toll the ‘Israel’ assault has taken on Gaza’s football community. Palestinian football authorities have said 567 players, coaches and other sports figures have been killed since the war began in October 2023.
Despite the destruction and displacement, football remains a prominent part of daily life for many Palestinians in Gaza, with matches and community games continuing where conditions allow.
