  • Mutual exchange of "Free Palestine" led Aslan and a Turkish passenger to mistakenly assume each other was Palestinian.
  • Aslan shared the clip online, framing Palestine as a shared cause and calling Gaza "our home" and Türkiye "the home of Palestinians."

Turkish singer Mehmet Ali Aslan led a spontaneous performance of the iconic Arabic anthem "Unadikum" alongside members of the Palestine national football team inside an airport shuttle bus at Istanbul Airport, following a solidarity match in Konya.

The impromptu moment occurred as the Palestinian team was transferring through Istanbul after participating in a high-profile friendly against Turkish Süper Lig club Konyaspor at the Konya Metropolitan Municipality Stadium.

In a video shared on his social media accounts, Aslan is seen leading the chant while Palestinian players and fellow passengers clapped and sang along inside the crowded transit vehicle.

Chants of 'Free Palestine'

As the song concluded, a passenger inside the bus shouted the slogan "Free Palestine" in support of the team.

Aslan revealed a lighthearted misunderstanding that followed, explaining that he initially thought the shouting passenger was a Palestinian member of the delegation, only to learn he was a Turkish citizen.

Concurrently, the passenger admitted he had assumed Aslan was a Palestinian Arab due to his fluent Arabic delivery of the anthem.

Reflecting on the encounter in his social media post, Aslan underscored the deep bond between the Turkish and Palestinian peoples:

"Palestine is the cause of us all. Gaza is our home. Türkiye is the home of Palestinians. Our greatest home is our Ummah."
