A 34-year-old Jordanian-American man, Mohammad Faiq Al-Hashaisheh -known as "Abu Fares"- was fatally shot inside his retail store in Chicago after enforcing age restriction laws on tobacco sales.

According to details provided to Roya News by his uncle, Ashraf Al-Hashaisheh, the incident began when a 17-year-old youth entered the establishment attempting to purchase cigarettes.

Complying with local legal regulations, Mohammad refused the sale due to the customer's underage status and requested personal identification to verify his age.

The minor exited the store following the refusal, only to return a short time later armed with a handgun.

He fired directly at Mohammad, striking him in the throat. Mohammad succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.

Manhunt underway

Ashraf Al-Hashaisheh confirmed that Chicago law enforcement agencies successfully identified the 17-year-old suspect and are actively pursuing his arrest to initiate formal criminal proceedings.

Mohammad had lived in the United States for 15 years and held American citizenship.

He was the father of four young children, and his wife was pregnant at the time of the shooting.

Described by his family as a hardworking and dedicated provider, Mohammad's sudden killing has caused widespread grief and shock among family members, acquaintances, and the broader Jordanian community in the United States and abroad.

Funeral and burial services for Mohammad are scheduled to take place in the United States, while a formal condolence hall will be established in his homeland of Jordan.
