Day 218 | Trump claims Iran war will end "right after the election" or sooner
US President Donald Trump declared Thursday that the seven-month war with Iran will conclude "right after the election" or before the upcoming November midterm elections, as the Pentagon dispatches roughly 9,000 additional military personnel toward the Middle East.
A US official confirmed to CBS News that the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group and the USS Makin Island Amphibious Readiness Group are underway toward the region.
Once both naval groups arrive, the United States military will maintain three aircraft carrier strike groups operating near Iran, elevating total naval forces in the theater to approximately 20,000 personnel.
"I'm ensuring that Iran will be very quickly ended," US President Trump stated Thursday, adding that he believes Iran's ruling leadership "is ready to fold up" under pressure.
Speaking following an emergency summit with Group of Seven (G7) leaders, US President Trump stated Friday that European allies had agreed to tap into emergency fuel reserves.
"European leaders agreed on Friday to release a 'massive amount' of their diesel oil stockpiles to alleviate high prices," Trump confirmed, referencing international coordination to stabilize global markets.
The economic measures coincided with continued disruptions to international maritime transit.
On Friday afternoon, a commercial transit vessel was struck while navigating through the Strait of Hormuz, underscoring ongoing operational volatility along key oil transport corridors.
