  • Ra’am and the Joint List, an alliance of Hadash, Ta’al and Balad, will be allowed to compete.
  • Ofer Cassif’s candidacy was approved by a 7-2 vote.
  • Balad leader Sami Abu Shehadeh withdrew his candidacy after judges recommended he do so.

‘Israel’s’ top court has overturned the Central Elections Committee’s decision to disqualify two Arab-majority political lists from this month’s parliamentary election, according to ‘Israeli’ media reports.

The ruling enables Ra’am and the Joint List, made up of Hadash, Ta’al and Balad, to compete in the election.

The committee had also barred Balad leader Sami Abu Shehadeh and Ofer Cassif, a Jewish lawmaker from the Arab-Jewish Hadash party.

Judges approved Cassif’s candidacy by a 7-2 majority. Abu Shehadeh withdrew his candidacy after judges recommended that he do so.

The court heard appeals against the disqualifications on Thursday, ahead of Friday’s ruling.
