Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said on Friday that the government's commitment to residents of southern Lebanon and Nabatieh “has not and will not change,” as state institutions return to the region to provide services.
Speaking in Nabatieh, Salam said the war “was not our choice but was imposed on us,” adding that the needs of southern Lebanon and Nabatieh exceeded the state's capabilities and required significant funding.
He added that Lebanon's priorities were to end attacks, secure the withdrawal of ‘Israel’ and enable residents to return to their towns.
“Waiting for a major regional settlement is not an option for Lebanon,” Salam said, warning that such a settlement might not happen or could come “at Lebanon's expense.”
He also stated that Lebanon must mobilize the necessary resources to secure the withdrawal of ‘Israel’ and strengthen state institutions on the basis of “one decision, one army.”
Salam concluded by saying that the return of state institutions to Nabatieh is part of restoring their presence and role in the region and serving residents.
