Yemeni government forces said Thursday that they launched attacks against Houthi positions across several fronts in Taiz governorate, claiming heavy losses among the group’s fighters.
According to a statement posted on the official X account of the Yemeni Armed Forces, the fighting took place in western and southeastern parts of Taiz. A military source said more than 30 Houthi fighters were killed, while dozens more were wounded.
The Yemeni Armed Forces said government warplanes carried out six airstrikes targeting Houthi positions and gatherings in Taiz.
The strikes reportedly targeted areas including Al-Akboush and Hayfan southeast of Taiz, as well as positions on the Humair front in Maqbanah district in the west.
Government forces also reported intense ground clashes in Bani Bakari in Jabal Habashi district, Humair in Maqbanah, and the Al-Aqrud front southeast of the governorate.
The Taiz Military Axis said at least 30 Houthi fighters were killed on the Al-Aqrud front alone, with dozens more wounded. Government forces also claimed to have destroyed or seized military equipment during the fighting.
The Houthis have not immediately commented on the reported casualties or the government forces’ claims.
The latest escalation comes amid intensified fighting across several Yemeni fronts, with Taiz and neighboring Lahj emerging as major areas of confrontation in recent weeks.
