The United Arab Emirates' attorney general has ordered an investigation into the incident aboard a Flydubai aircraft to determine the circumstances and whether it was linked to any terrorist activity.
The investigation follows the events that took place aboard Flydubai flight FZ1073, which was traveling from Dubai International Airport to Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport before being diverted to Tabuk in northwestern Saudi Arabia, where it made an emergency landing.
The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority described the event as a "security incident" that had been brought under control. It said investigative teams, in coordination with relevant authorities, were working to establish the causes and circumstances of the incident, including operational and security aspects.
The authority said the safety of passengers and crew remained its priority and urged against circulating unofficial information or drawing conclusions before the investigation is completed.
The Boeing 737 aircraft experienced an incident in the cockpit that left two pilots injured and prompted emergency procedures before the flight diverted to Tabuk, according to the report. International reports also said the aircraft experienced a sharp loss of altitude and transmitted emergency signals before stabilizing and landing safely.
