Ahmed Fouad Al-Husseini, an elderly Palestinian man, sustained two broken ribs and extensive chest injuries after being assaulted by a crowd of 'Israeli' settlers near Damascus Gate in occupied East Jerusalem.
Video footage recorded at the scene shows a large group surrounding Al-Husseini on the stairs of Damascus Gate, shoving him to the stone ground and delivering punches and kicks before he managed to retreat.
Speaking to Roya News following the incident, Al-Husseini recalled the sequence of events as he made his routine commute.
"I left home for work around 5:30 AM, arriving at Damascus Gate at approximately 5:40 AM," Al-Husseini stated. "The area was filled with settlers".
Struggle to escape
Al-Husseini explained that the mob targeted him immediately upon realizing his identity as an Arab.
"They realized I was an Arab," Al-Husseini said. "They shouted, 'He's an Arab, he's an Arab!' and everyone began hitting me".
The victim described being struck continuously on the right side of his body and on the stairs, unable to reach the top level initially as the crowd assaulted him with fists and kicks.
"They were hitting and cursing at the same time," Al-Husseini added. "It was as if they had caught a prize. I managed to break free from where I was down below and escape".
Legal proceedings initiated
Following the attack, Al-Husseini sought medical examination, which confirmed structural fractures to his ribcage.
"I have two broken ribs in my chest, and my chest hurts immensely," he stated. "There is no direct treatment for broken ribs except taking painkillers".
To seek accountability for the physical assault, Al-Husseini confirmed that he formally reported the incident to law enforcement and hired legal representation to file a case.
"I went to the police and filed an official report," Al-Husseini confirmed[cite: 2]. "After the police, I contacted a lawyer and raised a legal case regarding what happened".
