The Syrian Electricity Company said that the Deir Ali, Nasiriyah and Tishreen power plants have gone out of service following an explosion on the gas pipeline supplying the Tishreen thermal power plant near the town of Al-Otaybah.
The incident disrupted the gas supplies needed to operate the plants.
The company said the outage would lead to a decline in electricity generation and a temporary increase in power-rationing hours due to the resulting shortage in available generation capacity.
It said updates on the status of the plants and electricity supply would be issued at a later time.
Meanwhile, Syria’s state news agency SANA reported that the fire caused by the explosion was still ongoing, while specialized teams continued to deal with the incident.
Fire at Tishreen plant as civil defense teams work to extinguish blaze
SANA said civil defense teams had arrived at the site of the explosion near Al-Otaybah to contain the fire and secure the area.
Specialized teams managed to close the gas valves and isolate the damaged section of the pipeline at the Tishreen plant, resulting in a significant reduction in gas flow and a noticeable decrease in the flames.
