Two shows for Ed Sheeran cancelled amid “severe weather” claims

Ed Sheeran’s two scheduled concerts at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, this weekend have been canceled due to “severe weather” warnings.

The shows, set for Friday and Saturday as part of his Loop Tour, were called off after consultations with local officials over an approaching nor’easter expected to bring high winds, heavy rain, and dangerous conditions across New England.

Tour promoter Messina Touring Group announced the decision, stating: “Due to the severe weather warnings in place in Boston and across New England throughout the weekend and following consultation with local officials, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Ed Sheeran concerts at Gillette Stadium.”

The group emphasized that “the decision was made with the safety of fans, staff and everyone involved in the shows as the top priority.”

Refunds are available at the point of purchase, with Ticketmaster buyers set to receive automatic reimbursements.

The outdoor stadium, home to the New England Patriots and owned by billionaire Robert Kraft, faces high-wind warnings that officials advised would make travel and large gatherings unsafe through early Sunday.

Stage construction had already been paused in anticipation of the storm.

The cancellations add another layer of disruption to a tour already rocked by controversy.

Earlier this month, supporting act Macklemore was dropped after making pro-Palestinian comments—including calling for a “free Palestine”—during performances at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Macklemore alleged that Kraft, who is Jewish and has been vocal in support of ‘Israel’, led efforts among stadium owners to pressure the tour, saying he was told Kraft would not allow him to perform at Gillette and had rallied others with an ultimatum.

Kraft confirmed barring Macklemore from Gillette, citing the rapper’s “recent actions, material shared from the stage… and a broader history of antisemitic rhetoric and imagery that we believe has been deeply offensive and hurtful to the Jewish community.”

He added that the venue is committed to “providing a welcoming environment for all guests and ensuring that events held at our venue do not provide a platform for hate speech.”

Other opening acts subsequently withdrew in solidarity.

Sheeran has distanced himself from the removal, stating: “Macklemore coming off tour was the promoter’s decision, it was not mine. Macklemore’s contract for the tour was with the promoter, not me.”

He said he would not abandon the touring crew and remaining support acts who rely on the work.

Some fans had already sought refunds amid the fallout, and ticket prices had dropped in the secondary market.
