Yemen's Houthi movement has issued a fresh warning to Washington, cautioning that American military involvement in the country's conflict would provoke retaliation against US interests across the region.
Speaking to AFP in Sanaa on Tuesday, military adviser Abed Mohammed al-Thawr said any US attempt to deploy naval forces or seize control of the Bab al-Mandab strait would not be tolerated.
"If America dares to intervene militarily with its fleets or tries to take control of Bab al-Mandab, it is a red line for them and anyone else... we will fight over it," he said.
Al-Thawr went further, warning that American backing for Saudi Arabia in the form of airstrikes or aerial support would also trigger a response. "If America gambles on supporting Saudi Arabia with airstrikes or air support... We will consider any American interests around us to be targets," he told AFP.
