Qatar condemns ‘Israeli’ rejection of Gaza roadmap at UN

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, has sharply criticized ‘Israel’ for rejecting the roadmap designed to finish carrying out the broader plan to bring the Gaza conflict to a close.

He delivered these comments at a closed-door session for heads of state and government, organized by French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, taking place alongside the UN General Assembly's 81st session in New York.

Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Sheikh Mohammed pushed for the global community to step up and hold ‘Israel’ accountable to its commitments under the Gaza ceasefire deal. He urged an end to ‘Israel’s’ continued infringement on Palestinian rights, arguing this is key to finishing the roadmap and eventually securing lasting peace and stability in Gaza.

He also restated Qatar's unwavering backing of the Palestinian cause, including support for Palestinian statehood along the pre-1967 lines with East Jerusalem serving as its capital, a stance grounded in international legal resolutions and the wider two-state framework.

This comes after Netanyahu turned down the 15-point Gaza plan back in August, arguing that ‘Israeli’ troops would stay put until Hamas completely disarms, an issue that remains a major obstacle in pushing the ceasefire toward a lasting outcome.

Throughout the Gaza crisis, Qatar has served as a key mediator, and these remarks from Sheikh Mohammed at the UN gathering reflect Doha's ongoing push for the world to hold ‘Israel’ to the ceasefire terms it has already signed onto.
