US President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to demand a drastic reduction in domestic interest rates, arguing that rates should be lowered to "1%, or less" due to the country's economic strength.
In his statement, Trump praised current investment momentum across the nation, maintaining that the US possesses superior credit standing globally.
"Interest Rates in the United States should be 1%, or less, because we are the Best Credit in the World — BY FAR. Our Country is BOOMING with new Investment!" Trump wrote.
Connecting monetary policy directly with international commerce, Trump criticized existing US trade deficits with international partners.
He asserted that halting trade with deficit partners could dramatically alter the federal government's financial posture.
"If we stopped Trading with every country that we have a Deficit with, which is most of them, we would make, at least, 1.5 Trillion Dollars a year," Trump wrote. "The word 'Deficit' is nothing more than a fancy word for LOSS. We are 'carrying' almost every country in the World, and that cannot go on any longer."
Trump concluded his post with an urgent directive to monetary authorities: "LOWER THE INTEREST RATES FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND FAST!"
