A private jet crashed while landing at Misrata International Airport in western Libya on Monday morning, prompting authorities to shut down the airspace and suspend all flight operations at the facility.
According to preliminary reports, the aircraft overran the runway during landing and subsequently caught fire. Al-Arabiya reported that one of the passengers on board was a prominent figure.
Turkish media reported that Turkish businessman Hamdi Akin, head of the conglomerate Akfen Holding, owns the aircraft.
