  • The shooting follows settler incursions into a Palestinian farm.

A Palestinian man was shot and wounded on Saturday after ‘Israeli’ forces opened fire on residents of Faqqua, a village east of Jenin.

Faqqua residents had confronted a group of ‘Israeli’ settlers attempting to graze livestock on Palestinian-owned land, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Barakat Al-Omari, head of the Faqqua Village Council, told Wafa that a group of settlers began grazing livestock on land belonging to local residents, prompting villagers to intervene and try to stop the encroachment.

‘Israeli’ forces then intervened on behalf of the settlers and opened fire on the residents, wounding one man in the leg.

Faqqua, Jenin

Faqqua sits in the Jenin governorate, an area that has seen a marked increase in both settler incursions onto agricultural land and ‘Israeli’ military activity over the past two years.

Palestinian landowners in the northern West Bank have repeatedly reported settlers grazing livestock on their fields as a tactic to assert de facto control over land, often followed by confrontations in which ‘Israeli’ forces intervene in support of the settlers rather than the Palestinian residents attempting to protect their property.
