  • Oman will host a regional foreign ministers’ meeting on Monday involving Iran, Iraq and six Gulf states.
  • The talks will focus on regional issues, including safe shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz.

Oman will host a regional meeting of foreign ministers from eight countries bordering the Gulf on Monday to discuss regional issues, particularly safe commercial shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said Friday that the meeting would bring together the foreign ministers of Iran, Iraq and Arab Gulf states, according to Iran’s official IRNA news agency.

Baghaei said the meeting would also address the outcome of recent Iranian-Omani discussions on establishing safe routes for commercial vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz.

The meeting comes as regional countries seek arrangements to maintain the flow of commercial shipping through the strategic waterway amid heightened tensions and disruptions to maritime traffic.
