  • Fleeing families face severe shortages of shelter, clean water, and medical care, placing immense strain on local host communities.
  • Active military operations and severe funding deficits continue to hamper humanitarian aid teams from reaching the hardest-hit areas.

At least 46,000 people have been forced to flee their homes in southwestern Yemen following an intense surge in military escalation and clashes across coastal areas and strategic straits, according to an emergency report released Friday by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The rapid influx of displaced families has placed overwhelming pressure on already fragile host communities, pushing aid infrastructure to its limits amid severe shortfalls in international humanitarian response funding.

According to the UN migration agency, civilians fleeing the frontlines face acute shortages of essential survival supplies, including emergency shelter materials, clean drinking water, basic sanitation, and urgent medical care.

Displacement tracking indicates that military developments along maritime channels and coastal governorates forced thousands of families to abandon their belongings under fire.

The crisis is compounded by ongoing military operations and field risks that hinder humanitarian relief teams from reaching the hardest-hit communities.

The IOM warned that continued military escalation could trigger a wider humanitarian catastrophe across southern and western Yemen.
