Day 196 | ‘Israel’ blows up Ali Al-Taher heights as Tehran strikes US boat
The US Geological Survey said a 4.1-magnitude earthquake was detected in southern Lebanon following heavy Israeli explosions targeting Ali Al-Taher Heights.
The Israeli army said the infrastructure destroyed in the Ali Al-Taher Heights area in southern Lebanon stretched for more than two kilometers.
Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the army used more than 1,100 tons of explosives to demolish tunnels in Ali Al-Taher Heights in southern Lebanon.
The US Treasury Department said it had imposed new sanctions on entities supporting Iran’s allies in the Middle East, including Iraqi businessmen.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it struck a US unmanned boat near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz, claiming it hit the vessel and thwarted what it described as an aggressive mission.
President Donald Trump said, “We are winning the war” and claimed that the US controls the Strait of Hormuz. He added that Iran is collapsing and that Washington would not allow Tehran to acquire a nuclear weapon.
Iranian Fars News Agency reported explosions in the coastal areas of Sirik and Minab, as well as Qeshm Island in Hormozgan province in southern Iran.
The Wall Street Journal reported that senior Trump advisers had privately raised with him the possibility that the war with Iran could continue for the remainder of his term in office.
Trump, however, said the war with Iran would end immediately after the US midterm elections.
Reuters, citing diplomats, reported that the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors had referred Iran’s file to the UN Security Council over violations of its obligations.
Two vessels hit by projectiles off Oman coast: UKMTO
Two vessels were reportedly hit by four unknown projectiles off the coast of Oman, causing a fire on one vessel, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) Centre.
UKMTO said it received a report of an incident about four nautical miles west of the port of Khasab.
The master of another vessel reported seeing the projectiles strike two unknown vessels about six nautical miles north of his position. The status of the second vessel remains unclear.
Saudi to take ‘all measures to deter Houthi attacks’: Saudi UN representative
Saudi Arabia’s UN representative Abdulaziz al-Wasil said Riyadh will take “all necessary measures” to deter Houthi attacks and protect its security and sovereignty.
Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting, al-Wasil said Saudi Arabia would act in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.
He reaffirmed Riyadh’s support for Yemeni-led political solutions aimed at achieving security, stability and prosperity for the Yemeni people.
Al-Wasil also urged the Security Council to demand an end to attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, military escalation in Yemen, and threats to international navigation.
