  • The IRGC says the armed group was planning to launch attacks on cities along the Western border.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced Thursday that its security apparatus successfully thwarted a planned military operation and dismantled an armed cell comprising seven members affiliated with Kurdish separatist groups in the western province of Ilam.

According to an official statement issued by the IRGC, intelligence units conducted field surveillance and tracked the movements of the group before executing a targeted operation to apprehend its members before they could carry out attacks.

The statement said that the cell was preparing to execute coordinated armed strikes targeting cities across the western border region.

The operation comes amid heightened security vigilance across Iran's western border provinces, where state security forces frequently target foreign-backed armed groups attempting to infiltrate the country.
