US President Donald Trump said Wednesday he is “happy” that Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have left the United States after six years in California and returned to Britain.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump responded bluntly when asked about the couple’s recent departure. “I am happy about it. I was not a fan,” he said.
The family arrived back in Britain at the end of August.
Trump, who has long described warm ties with the British royal family, criticized the couple’s past conduct. “I thought they treated the royal family with great disrespect. I didn’t like it,” he said.

Of the current monarch, he added: “He’s a great, great guy.”
Harry and Meghan stepped down from official royal duties in 2020 and moved to the United States, later settling in Montecito, California.

Trump made clear he would have handled their return differently. “Maybe I’m different. I wouldn’t have taken them back. If I were the royal family, I would not have taken them back,” he said.
The couple’s decision to return with their children, Archie and Lilibet, marks the end of their primary US residency, though details of any longer-term plans in Britain remain limited.
