Four children were injured on Wednesday after a projectile left behind by the former Syrian government exploded in Talmenes, in the southern countryside of Idlib, Syria’s state-run SANA news agency reported.
Dr. Radwan Rahma, head of the emergency department at Idlib University Hospital, told SANA that medical staff immediately treated three of the injured children upon their arrival and carried out the necessary emergency examinations.
The fourth child did not require hospitalization, Rahma said.
He added that the hospital is prepared to treat injuries caused by remnants of war due to the availability of specialized surgical departments.
Rahma urged residents to exercise caution and report any suspicious objects to civil defense teams.
The incident follows a similar explosion late last month in Maarrat al-Sin village in southern Idlib that injured three other civilians.
Unexploded ordnance and landmines in agricultural areas continue to pose a serious risk to residents returning to their villages, amid shortages of detection equipment and specialized engineering teams.
