  • Factory blast in Uttar Pradesh kills 11, including eight children.
  • Explosion demolishes the factory and nearby homes.
  • Disaster marks India’s third fatal firecracker factory blast this year.
  • Crews rescue victims as officials pledge compensation and medical support.

Eleven people -including eight children- were killed on Monday when a massive explosion demolished a firecracker factory in the Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh, leaving multiple individuals injured and destroying several nearby houses.

According to local police, the youngest child killed in the disaster was just four years old. The force of the explosion completely flattened adjacent residential structures, with footage on social media showing debris scattered across the area and survivors covered in dust.

The incident marks the third fatal firecracker factory explosion in India this year, bringing renewed attention to manufacturing safety standards.

Search for survivors

Emergency teams deployed excavators and heavy machinery to search for individuals trapped beneath mounds of concrete and brick.

Local residents joined the rescue effort using basic tools and bare hands to clear debris.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation by local law enforcement.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on social media that local authorities were directed to the scene to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured and assist affected families, issuing financial aid of ₹2 lakh ($2,400 USD) to the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 ($600 USD) to the injured.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep condolences online, stating he was "extremely saddened by the loss of lives" while promising government compensation for victims' families and injured survivors.

Safety concerns

The hazardous industry employs hundreds of thousands of people across India, making the nation a prominent global supplier.

However, regulatory agencies and the International Labour Organization (ILO) have frequently pointed out that many manufacturing units operate out of informal or home-based facilities without basic safety protocols, frequently involving child labor and unsafe handling of explosive materials.
