The US is preparing to designate UK-based protest group Palestine Action as a global terrorist organization, The Telegraph reported, citing US officials.

If implemented, the group would be placed under US counterterrorism sanctions alongside organizations including Hamas, al-Qaeda and Islamic State.

The designation would freeze Palestine Action’s US-based assets and prohibit Americans from providing the group with funds, goods or services. Supporters could also face restrictions on entering the US.

US officials accuse Palestine Action of promoting what they describe as “acts of terrorism” on social media and encouraging others to adopt similar tactics in the US and elsewhere.

The reported sanctions could extend beyond the organization itself. People who fund or participate in activities on behalf of Palestine Action could face US sanctions and visa restrictions, according to The Telegraph.

The group’s co-founders, Richard Barnard and Huda Ammori, could face lifetime bans from entering the US if the designation is imposed, the report said.

The US government has not publicly confirmed the designation in the material cited by The Telegraph.

The reported US move follows the UK government’s decision to proscribe Palestine Action as a terrorist organization in 2025.

That decision followed an incident at RAF Brize Norton in which activists broke into the military facility and damaged aircraft.

Palestine Action has carried out direct actions targeting companies it says are linked to ‘Israel’s’ arms industry. The group has argued that its campaign aims to disrupt companies involved in supplying weapons to ‘Israel’ amid its war in Gaza.

In August 2024, activists broke into an Elbit Systems facility near Bristol and damaged property. Police said officers were attacked during the incident.

The reported designation would form part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to target what US officials describe as far-left extremism.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has previously called for greater international cooperation against what he described as “far-Left terror.”
