Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf met Faiq Zaidan, chairman of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, in Tehran, according to Ghalibaf’s official Telegram channel.

The two officials discussed bilateral relations during Zaidan’s visit to the Iranian capital, which came just days after Ghalibaf completed a three-day visit to Iraq.

The meeting focused on ties between the neighboring countries as Tehran and Baghdad work to strengthen coordination amid heightened regional tensions.

Iran and Iraq have sought to mend relations in recent weeks following US-Saudi strikes on bases belonging to the Iran-backed Popular Mobilisation Forces across Iraq.

Saudi Arabia said the strikes came after the PMF launched drone attacks against the kingdom.

The latest meeting comes as Tehran and Baghdad continue diplomatic efforts to manage regional tensions and maintain close ties between the two neighboring countries.
