  • January protest detainee executed in Iran.

Iranian authorities executed Majid Adineh on Sunday morning after he was convicted of acting as an agent of 'Israel' and the United States during anti-government protests earlier this year, according to judiciary media outlet Mizan Online.

Adineh was put to death at dawn after Iran's Supreme Court upheld a capital verdict issued by the Karaj Revolutionary Court, which also ordered the total confiscation of his property.

The judiciary stated that Adineh was convicted of "operational action in favor of hostile groups," deliberate arson, and gathering and colluding to undermine national security.

Details of arrest

According to court documentation, intelligence forces belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) arrested Adineh and an accomplice in Alborz province, west of Tehran, on January 9.

At the time of his arrest, authorities reported seizing a revolver, ammunition, two tasers, two tear gas canisters, a rechargeable chainsaw, and a bottle of gasoline.

The protests initially erupted in late December over rising living costs and economic hardship before expanding into widespread anti-government demonstrations that reached a peak in early January.

Iranian authorities reported more than 3,000 deaths associated with the overall civil unrest, attributing much of the violent clashes to external destabilization efforts organized by foreign intelligence agencies.
