  • UNIFIL calls on all parties in Lebanon to stop violating Security Council Resolution 1701 and avoid actions that could escalate tensions.
  • The peacekeeping mission says its forces remain deployed across southern Lebanon to monitor the situation and support humanitarian efforts.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has called on all parties in Lebanon to cease violations of Security Council Resolution 1701 and avoid provocative actions that could further escalate tensions.

“Instability is not in anyone’s interest,” UNIFIL said, urging “all actors to renew their commitment to Security Council resolution 1701.”

The resolution, adopted by the UN Security Council in 2006, called for an end to hostilities between ‘Israel’ and Hezbollah and outlined measures aimed at maintaining stability along the Lebanon-‘Israel’ border.

UNIFIL warned that further violations and provocative actions could increase tensions and trigger additional breaches of the resolution.

The mission said its peacekeepers “remain fully committed to their mandate” and continue to maintain a visible presence across southern Lebanon.

UNIFIL said its activities include monitoring developments, maintaining liaison with relevant parties and supporting humanitarian partners operating in the region.

The UN force reiterated that preventing further escalation requires all parties to respect their commitments under Resolution 1701.
