  • Donald Trump says the situation with Iran is currently "good" despite paused US negotiations with Tehran.
  • The Strait of Hormuz remains a major point of tension as Trump claims the US is in "complete control" of the waterway.

US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the situation with Iran is "good" as Washington pauses negotiations with Tehran and tensions continue over the Strait of Hormuz.

"Right now, I think the situation is so good," Trump told reporters, suggesting that talks could resume "at some point."

Trump also reiterated his claim that the United States is in "possession" and "complete control" of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically vital waterway and key route for global oil shipments.

The strait has emerged as a major bargaining chip in the ongoing war with Iran. Tehran has effectively closed the waterway since fighting began in late February, disrupting maritime traffic and global oil shipments.

"They shoot a drone every once in a while," Trump said, referring to Iran's disruption of traffic through the strait. "But not everybody's going to go through."

Trump has repeatedly said that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon remains his priority as his administration weighs its next steps.

His latest remarks came a day after he appeared to adopt a new approach toward Tehran, with a US official saying administration envoys had been instructed to halt their conversations with Iran.
