  • His Majesty King Abdullah II highlighted opportunities to deepen Jordan-China cooperation in investment, energy, tourism, technology and development.
  • His Majesty urged China to use its international influence to support the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

His Majesty King Abdullah II highlighted the growing strategic partnership between Jordan and China, while calling for greater Chinese involvement in efforts to advance peace and support the two-state solution.

In an interview with China’s Xinhua News Agency published Monday in Chinese, English and Arabic, His Majesty discussed his upcoming visit to China and opportunities to expand cooperation between the two countries.

Jordan and China are preparing to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027. The two countries established a strategic partnership in 2015.

His Majesty said Jordan’s strategic location, resources and skilled workforce, combined with China’s economic strength, technological expertise and global reach, create opportunities for broader cooperation.

His Majesty pointed to progress in trade, investment, infrastructure, education, healthcare and cultural exchanges, as well as Chinese support for training programs benefiting thousands of Jordanians.

His Majesty also highlighted Chinese investment in Jordan’s energy and mining sectors, including the $502 million acquisition by China’s State Development and Investment Group of a 28 percent stake in the Arab Potash Company.

He said Jordan is looking to expand cooperation with China in green energy, scientific innovation, tourism and civil aviation.

His Majesty said Jordan’s Economic Modernisation Vision through 2033 is focused on improving prosperity, quality of life and long-term inclusive growth.

He highlighted the digitization of government services and efforts to integrate artificial intelligence into public administration.

His Majesty also said renewable energy now accounts for approximately 27 percent of Jordan’s electricity generation, up from less than 1 percent a decade ago. Jordan aims to raise the share to 40 percent by 2035.

He identified nearly one gigawatt of planned renewable energy generation and energy storage projects as representing more than $1 billion in investment opportunities.

His Majesty also called for stronger tourism cooperation with China, including improved air connectivity and efforts to position Jordan as a filming destination for the Chinese film industry.

Addressing the regional situation, His Majesty said the Palestinian issue remains “the core issue” in the Middle East and warned that failing to resolve it would leave the region vulnerable to recurring cycles of violence.

His Majesty condemned intensified settler attacks, settlement expansion, land confiscations, home demolitions and violations at Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

“These measures cannot go unnoticed or unaddressed,” His Majesty said, stressing the need to uphold international law, UN resolutions and human rights.

His Majesty reaffirmed Jordan’s support for the establishment of a viable, independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, living alongside ‘Israel’ in peace and security.

His Majesty also called on China to use its influence and position on the international stage to help advance the two-state solution.

“Our humanitarian efforts in Gaza continue, and we are grateful for China’s contributions to ongoing relief efforts,” His Majesty said.

His Majesty praised China’s role as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and said Beijing has an important role in promoting international peace and security.

He also welcomed growing relations between China and Arab countries, describing mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation as the foundation of the partnership.

His Majesty said Jordan would continue working to strengthen regional connectivity, cooperation and dialogue while building partnerships between Arab states, China and other international partners.
