  • Jordan will observe a public holiday on Tuesday, August 25, marking the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.
  • Government departments, official universities, municipalities and fully government-owned companies will suspend work, with exceptions for essential services.

Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan has issued a circular declaring Tuesday, August 25, a public holiday to mark the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.

The decision applies to all ministries and government departments, public institutions and authorities, official universities, municipalities, joint services councils, the Greater Amman Municipality and companies fully owned by the government.

The circular exempts ministries, government departments and institutions whose work requires them to operate on the holiday.

Hassan also called on ministries, government departments and public institutions to help commemorate the occasion and mark the religious holiday in a manner befitting its significance.
