  • Haredi liturgical singer killed in Jerusalem accident.
  • Police investigate possible mechanical failure.
  • Conflicting online claims emerge over his background.

A fatal traffic accident on Adoniyahu HaCohen Street claimed the life of 46-year-old paytan (liturgical singer) Avishai Levy on Friday August 7, triggering contrasting responses online regarding the musician's legacy.

According to authorities, Levy, a member of the Haredi community, had just exited his vehicle when the car unexpectedly began rolling forward.

In an apparent effort to halt the runaway vehicle, Levy was pinned between the car and a nearby utility pole.

Emergency response

First responders from Magen David Adom and United Hatzalah arrived at the scene and performed emergency resuscitation maneuvers. However, Levy succumbed to severe trauma and was pronounced dead at the location.

Police investigation

Traffic police units have launched a mechanical investigation to determine the technical failure that caused the vehicle to move after being parked.

Social media controversy

While law enforcement treats the death as a tragic traffic accident, the event sparked polarized narratives across social media platforms.

Pro-Palestinian social media accounts claimed that Levy served as an 'Israeli' military major who utilized his musical platform to perform anti-Palestinian songs and nationalist chants for troops.
