Jews were the targets in 70% of all reported hate crimes in New York City during July, according to data released by the New York Police Department (NYPD).

Police recorded 23 anti-Jewish hate crimes out of 33 confirmed hate crime incidents during the month. The July total marked a 53% increase from the 15 anti-Jewish incidents recorded in July 2025.

According to the NYPD, overall hate crimes in New York City increased 9.4% during the first seven months of 2026, rising from 329 incidents during the same period last year to 360.

Authorities said 205 anti-Jewish hate crimes were reported between January and July, compared with 189 during the same period in 2025, an increase of 8.5%. Jews accounted for 57% of all reported hate crimes in the city during that period.

The data also showed increases in reported hate crimes targeting Muslims, Hispanic people, and incidents motivated by sexual orientation and gender identity, while reported incidents targeting Asian, Black, and White people declined.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said the city would continue efforts to combat antisemitism and hate crimes.

"The work to uproot antisemitism out of this city is one that will continue until we see hate crimes come to an end in the city," he said.

City Council Speaker Julie Menin said she remained concerned by the increase in hate crimes, particularly those targeting Jewish New Yorkers.
