  • The ‘Israeli’ Consulate in New York criticized Rama Duwaji, the wife of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, over her reported participation in a Palestinian solidarity workshop in Corsica.
  • The consulate accused the event of promoting what it called a “false narrative” about history and ‘Israel’.

The ‘Israeli’ Consulate in New York issued a statement criticizing Rama Duwaji, the wife of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, following reports that she participated in hosting a workshop supporting Palestinians in Corsica, France.

According to the consulate, Duwaji, who is of Syrian origin, took part in a Palestinian solidarity event where Mary, the mother of Jesus, was described as a “Palestinian woman who gave birth under occupation.”

The consulate accused Duwaji of promoting what it called a “false narrative” against ‘Israel’, saying the event involved what it described as historical distortion and the use of religious history for political purposes.

The statement said that portraying Jesus as being born to a Palestinian mother or suggesting he was Muslim amounted, in the consulate’s view, to a distortion of history.

“Jesus was a Jew born in the land of Judea to his Jewish mother Mary, and any attempt to portray him as born to a Palestinian mother or to imply he was Muslim is a historical distortion,” the consulate said.

The consulate concluded by accusing New York City’s first lady of promoting what it described as a “false and dangerous narrative” against ‘Israel’.
