The ‘Israeli’ military said Saturday that a soldier was arrested on “suspicion” of shooting and wounding a 10-year-old Palestinian child in the West Bank village of al-Mughayyir the previous day.

According to the military, its forces received a report Friday night that a Palestinian minor had been struck by gunfire in the al-Mughayyir area, which falls under the Binyamin Brigade’s responsibility.

“A short time ago, Judea and Samaria District police arrested an active-duty soldier on leave on suspicion of involvement in the incident and seized his weapon,” the military stated.

The soldier was not on official duty at the time and was reportedly with other ‘Israelis’ near the village.

Palestinian sources, including the official WAFA news agency, reported that a group of ‘Israeli’ settlers attacked a sheep farm west of al-Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah, on Friday evening and opened fire.

The 10-year-old child was shot in the back and wounded, local sources said.

Video footage circulating online shows a mother and her three young children trying to run for safety as shots are fired from a distance.

In the clip, one of the children, appearing to be around 10 years old, is seen holding an arm after apparently being hit.

The incident took place against a backdrop of repeated settler-related violence and military activity in al-Mughayyir, a village that has seen multiple confrontations in recent months.

No further details on the child’s medical condition were immediately released by either side.

‘Israeli’ police said it detained the soldier and confiscated his personal weapon as part of the investigation.
