‘Israeli’ lawyer Yehuda Shimon said in statements to the BBC that settlers’ attacks on Palestinian villages were justified as revenge and called for the killing of residents of several nearby Palestinian communities, one week after a deadly clash near the Havat Gilad settlement.

On July 24, a confrontation near the Palestinian village of Tal (also known as Tell), close to the ‘Israeli’ settlement of Havat Gilad in the northern West Bank, left four Palestinians and two ‘Israelis’ dead.

‘Israeli’ authorities said a Palestinian seized a weapon from a security team member from Havat Gilad and opened fire.

Palestinian accounts described armed settlers entering the village and attacking homes.

The incident triggered a wave of settler attacks on Palestinian villages in the area over the following days.

Yehuda Shimon, a lawyer affiliated with an organization that represents ‘Israelis’ arrested for violence against Palestinians, spoke to a BBC reporter inside Havat Gilad.

He defended the recent attacks as necessary retaliation.

“I think now, after they killed one Israeli, we need to kill all the people in Tal and Sarra, even Jit and Farata,” Shimon said, naming the closest Palestinian villages.

When the reporter noted that this equated one Jewish life with hundreds or thousands of Palestinian lives, Shimon replied: “No… millions. One Jewish life, it’s 10 million [Palestinians].”

Asked whether the statement sounded racist, Shimon answered: “Yes… But this is the truth. Because God chose us. You are jealous.”

He also told the reporter that, despite working as a lawyer, the only law that truly mattered to him was the Bible.
