An unborn Palestinian baby died on Monday after 'Israeli' soldiers detained and obstructed an ambulance at the Awarta checkpoint, delaying a critical transport to hospitals in Nablus.

The Palestinian ambulance, dispatched from the village of Qaryut, was carrying a pregnant mother in critical condition when it was held up by military forces enforcing heightened movement restrictions.

Critical medical delay 

During the detention at the checkpoint, the mother's medical condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to severe internal bleeding while the vehicle was prevented from continuing its route to specialized medical care in Nablus.

Medical personnel confirmed that while the mother survived after eventually receiving emergency treatment, the prolonged delay and complications suffered during the detention resulted in the death of her fetus.

'Israeli' military crackdown

The obstruction at the Awarta checkpoint comes as 'Israeli' forces enforce a sweeping campaign of intensified raids, arrests, and strict movement restrictions across the occupied West Bank.

The measures were ordered by the 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following a recent incident in the village of Tell that resulted in the deaths of two 'Israeli' officers, leading to heightened military presence and checkpoint closures throughout the region.
