A Palestinian artist has painted a mural of Egypt national football team head coach Hossam Hassan on the rubble of a destroyed home in Gaza after Hassan dedicated Egypt’s historic World Cup Round of 16 qualification to both the Egyptian and Palestinian people following their progress to the knockout stage.

The artwork, created by Palestinian artist Obeid Al-Karshelli, depicts Hassan carrying the Egyptian and Palestinian flags together.

Al-Karshelli said the mural was created as a gesture of appreciation for Hassan’s message of solidarity with Palestinians.

After Egypt secured qualification for the World Cup with a victory over Australia, Hassan dedicated the achievement to both the Egyptian and Palestinian people.

“I dedicate this victory to another people alongside the Egyptian people. I dedicate it to the Palestinian people, who have never failed to support us,” Hassan told beIN Sports.

The mural has drawn attention as a symbol connecting football celebrations with expressions of support for Palestinians in Gaza.
