  • US President Donald Trump warned of possible further attacks on Iran, including strikes on electricity and desalination plants.
  • Trump also said US forces targeted parts of Iran’s Kharg Island, a major oil export hub.

US President Donald Trump warned Wednesday of possible further military action against Iran, including strikes on critical infrastructure such as power and desalination plants.

Speaking during a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the NATO summit, Trump said a potential attack “may be a big attack” that would “knock out a lot of stuff.”

Trump specifically referred to electric plants, saying: “We’ll take them out. I don’t want to do that, but if we have to, we’ll take them out.”

He also mentioned desalination plants, which provide drinking water in many areas, saying they would be targeted “if we have to,” while adding that it was the option he would “like to do least.”

Targeting essential civilian infrastructure, including water and power facilities, has raised concerns under international humanitarian law, as such sites are generally protected unless they meet specific military criteria.

Trump also named Kharg Island, a key center for Iranian oil exports, saying US forces had struck part of the facility.

“We attacked Kharg Island last night, knocked out a piece,” Trump said, adding that he had instructed the military not to target oil pipelines but to strike other areas.

He said further strikes on the island could take place, as tensions continue to escalate between Washington and Tehran.
