  • Thousands of mourners gathered in Tehran for the second day of public funeral ceremonies for Iran's former supreme leader Ali Khamenei.
  • Funeral prayers are also being held for four of Khamenei's family members killed in the same US-'Israeli' strike.

Thousands of mourners gathered in Iran's capital early Sunday for the second day of public funeral ceremonies for former supreme leader Ali Khamenei.

A prayer ceremony began at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla, where Khamenei's body has been lying in state since Saturday, according to Iranian semi-official media.

As dawn broke, large crowds had already assembled outside the mosque complex to pay their respects. Footage released by the semi-official IRNA news agency showed mourners filling the area as prayers echoed through loudspeakers and some attendees gently waved Iranian national flags.

Funeral prayers are also being offered for four members of Khamenei's family who were killed in the same US-'Israeli' strike that claimed his life, Iranian semi-official media reported.

The public mourning ceremonies are expected to continue as officials, religious figures, and supporters gather to honor the late leader before the next stages of the funeral proceedings.
