Flávio Bolsonaro, a senator and a leading candidate in Brazil’s upcoming presidential election, expressed his intention to celebrate a potential victory in Jerusalem.

Speaking at an event in Buenos Aires on Sunday, the conservative politician underscored his pro-‘Israel’ stance, positioning it as a counter to the current Brazilian government’s policies.

Bolsonaro told the ‘Israeli’ news outlet Jewish News Syndicate (JNS) that he would like to mark his election win in Jerusalem.

“We don’t have an ambassador from Israel in Brazil, but we have an ambassador from Iran,” he stated, criticizing the administration of current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

This rhetoric comes as Brazil-‘Israel’ relations remain strained under Lula, who has been a vocal critic of ‘Israel’s’ assault on Gaza.

Diplomatic ties have been downgraded, with Brazil recalling its ambassador to ‘Israel’ and refusing to approve new ‘Israeli’ envoys.

Bolsonaro has also pledged to move Brazil’s embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem if elected in October 2026, echoing a promise once made by his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro.

The candidate, who has faced his own political challenges including scandals affecting his campaign, portrays his position as a defense of Judeo-Christian values and a rejection of Lula’s approach, which he labels antisemitic.
