Irish actor Liam Cunningham, renowned for his portrayal of Davos Seaworth in the television series Game of Thrones, has publicly endorsed the international "Free Marwan" campaign.

The announcement, shared via the campaign's Instagram account, highlights Cunningham's support for the release of Marwan Barghouti, a prominent Palestinian political figure detained by ‘Israel’ since 2002.

Barghouti, a former Fatah leader and sitting Palestinian parliamentarian at the time of his arrest, has been serving multiple life sentences following his conviction in an ‘Israeli’ court for involvement in operations.

Supporters of the campaign, however, regard him as a unifying national leader and draw parallels to figures like Nelson Mandela, emphasizing his potential role in advancing peace negotiations.

The "Free Marwan Now" initiative has garnered significant attention from global cultural figures.

In December 2025, over 200 prominent individuals—including actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Josh O’Connor, Mark Ruffalo, and Javier Bardem, as well as authors and musicians such as Margaret Atwood and Sting—signed an open letter urging ‘Israel’ to release Barghouti, who has been detained for more than 24 years.

Cunningham's participation adds to a growing roster of celebrities aligning with the cause. The campaign features themed initiatives, such as "Team Marwan" football shirts inspired by the 2002 Palestine national team jersey, symbolizing solidarity and calling for Barghouti's freedom alongside other Palestinian political prisoners.

Advocates argue that Barghouti's imprisonment undermines prospects for a lasting resolution to the ‘Israeli’-Palestinian conflict. They position him as a potential bridge for reconciliation, citing his popularity among Palestinians and past involvement in political processes.
